every.single.day

Every single day, when we get up and out of bed, I talk to the kids about our "plan for the day".  Whether its hang at home or doctor visits or grocery shopping, whatever, we always talk about it somewhere between climbing out of bed and breakfast, we always talk about our day.  Without fail, when we ask T what she wants to do, its followed by a long thoughtful pause and then a big, bright "I KNOW, LET'S GO TO SEAWORLD!" every.single.day since our first visit to Seaworld.

Today, to help celebrate her upcoming birthday, we woke up and said "Hey, let's go to Seaworld!"...and she is psyched.  We get to stay over night and everything.  And you know who else is gonna be there?  Miss Lily!!  So excited that Alli, Mike and Lily are going too (who by the way is going to kill me for linking her blog, but she won't see it till we get back - HA!)

Here are a few shots of my funny, Seaworld lovin' girl....

We're off!

July 18, 2008

Did I mention?

3 is my favorite number?  My most favorite little girl in the whole world turns 3 in 3 days.  Stay tuned for birthday pics!

Img_1722web

"Super T" pretty much has her own identity around here...."Super T wants some juice please"..."Super T doesn't want to take a nap"...and when Teagan drops a toy or Kylie needs to be let in or out, it's "Super T to the rescuuuuuuuuuue!"  Super T also gets blamed for things her alter ego doesn't feel like fessing up to.  As a result, Super T has grown to dislike timeout.  Yeah, I've got a lot of nerve punishing a super hero?!  The funniest part is that she pulls her little arms up and over, fists clenched and hikes up that knee before she "takes off".  The other day I walked into her room and found her taking her beloved cape on and off, then back on and off again.  I had to giggle as I heard her say "now I'm Little T, now I'm Super T, now I'm Little T, now I'm Super T".  We pretty much live Super T alllll day, every day.

ETA:  T got this cape for Christmas, you can see a photo of the back of it HERE (just scroll down a little and you'll see it).  It's monogrammed with her initial on it and super cute, but not cheap.  Yup, it was a Gee-Gee gift, I'm kinda cheap like that.  But, I can tell you it has been worth every single penny because she has worn it almost every single day for months (except on vacation) and it looks brand spanking new even with tons of use.  She loves it that much.  My mom bought it from Chasing Fireflies and they have both a girl version and a boy version.  Hope this helps!

Oh, and the "3" thing got crazy today.  T had her 3 year check up at the pediatricians office.  It's 3 days until her 3rd birthday on the 21st (add those numbers together and they equal 3)...then, she weighs 33 lbs and is 3 feet 3 inches tall.  Crazy!!

dennis the menace

I just had to come back and share a few more of cute little Bradley.  The whole time I was proofing I couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity.  At first I thought it was because this little guy reminds me of Ty when he was 2....which desperately made me wish I could go back in time with my camera.  But when I was chatting with his mom about the photos, she mentioned the little look of mischief in his eyes in this shot and said "he is such a little dennis the menace!"  HA!  lightbulb moment - that's who he reminds me of!!

Thanks for the great time you guys, it was fun!!

deep down, y'all knew it was coming....

it was inevitable...

here it is...

Img_1577web_2

HA!  What I love about this is that his sweet little face is looking up at Ty who was "spotting" for basket tippage.  You can see the love in his eyes can't ya?  I feel the same way about Ty, so I know just how Teagan feels.  Gosh I love them both.

ps - When I was done proofing this photo, I ran the VIBE "Glow" action on it and really like the effect.  Check out Ren's stuff, it rocks!

I'm so far behind on ....

insert word here:  blogging, proofing, cleaning, returning emails and phone calls, birthday party planning.  You name it, I'm behind on it.  Sorry if you are waiting on me...I'm plugging along!

5 days left of being 2 and she's just as fabulous as ever.  Her signature giggle cracks me up every time....

Also check out Teri's blog to see more.  I owe her a huge thank you for jumping in at the last minute to help us out!  Thanks Teri!

Guess what we did tonight?

Well, this proves it....rice cereal = torture.  We decided to let Ty feed Teagan cereal for the first time (who was thrilled with that idea!).

My poor, sweet, unsuspecting, boobie fed baby...

Oh, sweet baby, who held onto your favorite boob forever tonight just to be sure it was still there for you, you are so, so funny.

Momma Monday - Traveling with Kids

It's been awhile since I've managed to participate in a Mommy Monday post over on Erin's blog, but this subject is fresh for us since we just got home from our first big trip with 3 kids.  I can say this, traveling with 2 was MUCH easier than traveling with 3.  Ok, so it's probably that one of the 3 is a baby, because Ty is easy.  At 11, he's a huge help and has the ability to carry stuff, which is priceless.  A couple of things I found useful.....

1.  I bought this travel bed from Target.  It was cheaper than a lot of others ones I'd seen and was perfect since it folds up flat and I could stuff it in a suitcase.  Plus we didn't have to cart our pack-n-play to the airport and check it as baggage.  It was perfect for Teagan to sleep in and you can use an extra pillowcase as a sheet over the little mattress if you need to.

2.  We opted to also not cart our big old double stroller with us.   Its perfect for use at home, but honestly, it wasn't cheap and I didn't want the airline to bang it all up.  Instead, we wore Teagan when we were out and about.  We wear him a lot anyway, its his favorite spot, so it works for us.

I've gotten a lot of emails and questions about our sling since I posted this shot of Jason wearing our little guy.  I seriously am in love with it and use it every single day.  It's a Slingezee.  If you are wearing it correctly, you can't even tell you're wearing the baby. I find it that comfortable. I have had several slings and this one is by far my favorite. I can wear Teagan so many ways in it. He naps in the cradle position, he can face out which he loves and I even nurse him in it. Then when he's bigger, he can sit on my hip. Jason and I both love it. I saw a local mom wearing one at a group playdate and asked her where she got it. It comes with a dvd that explains how to wear it correctly, which we found really helpful. It's not nearly as hot to wear as the other slings we have and Teagan rarely sweats in it.

We did end up buying a cheap-o umbrella stroller when we arrived at the beach because I just couldn't face wearing Teagan at the water park.  It was under $15 and worth every penny even though we only used it a few times.

3.  I wish I would have bought these for our air travel, our carseats got a little beat up because the airline was out of disposable bags.  And this is pretty cool if you are not checking the carseats.

4.  Feeding little one while traveling is tricky and we always have snacks with us.  Nursing on the road is tough, so this time I opted to shove my boppy into a suitcase.  I love that thing.  Teagan doesn't get a lot of bottles, but I was sooooo glad I had one with me for our flight home.  He decided he was starving the instant we were called to board the plane.  Granted, I've cooked T a grilled cheese while nursing before, but boarding a plane with all our stuff while nursing that would have been a neat trick.  For now on, I'll make sure I pump enough to travel with at least one bottle.
For the older kids, we let them pick snacks and they carry them themselves in their carry on bag.  Hey, less for me to carry right?!

Car travel....

1.  This is tough for us, we've always traveled a lot by car and have enjoyed it.  Seems like before Taryn came along, Jase, Ty and I were constantly going somewhere on a road trip.  But, Teagan HATES the car.  Can't stand it.  It makes even the shortest drive so stressful.  Red lights seem to take for.ev.er.  Interstate driving isn't any better.  He literally screamed the entire way from Slidell to Orange Beach, 2.5 hours.  Its frazzling.  I bought him one of those activity things that hangs on the headrest, but it doesn't really help.  Anyone have any good advice???

2.  Taryn loves books in the car.  And toy catalogs.  We have tried to be a dvd family several times but T always messes with it and we end up taking it out....sigh.  Ty is always happy with a book, even on short rides to the grocery store.

3.  This portable potty is a life saver.  It just saved us with Taryn on Saturday during a trip to San Marcos to see Jason's parents.   When you gotta go, you gotta go.  I just set it up in the back of my explorer with the gate closed and half window open so she has some privacy.  I also carry these Green and Clean Potty Covers with us everywhere.  Perfect for a germ-o-phobe like me!

4.  I'm a big believer in first aid kits, so there is always one with me, in the car, diaper bag, purse, you name it.  My family says I'm addicted to them, but I like to think of it as being prepared.  Oh, and ziplock bags and garbage bags, they always come in handy.  I also love my neat sheet.  Oh, and sunscreen, I try to have it with me, since my kids are fair skinned and my hubby is bald =)

That's all I can think of for now.

Ultimate PCS

PCS = Photographer Child Syndrome

It's an adjective that describes the actions of a child who is overly photographed due to having a photographer as a parent.  This term is most commonly used by photographers when describing their own children in frustration.  This condition is rampant, just as any pro with kiddos at home.  Exhibit A:

Img_1141web

Little stinker.

I love this bathing suit my mom bought for T, I'm soooo mad at myself for forgetting to bring it on our beach trip though.  I had big plans for it!  Then when I tried to do a little shoot with T at my mom's house when we got back from the beach, she wasn't all that cooperative.  We ended up giving her the hose just to get her to stay put a bit.  I may try again soon.

Img_1205web

Img_1207web_2

Oh, I have so much blogging to catch up on.  I am desperately trying to get settled in and through so many of the images (and emails) I owe people.  Bear with me as I catch up on the first 5 TTD sessions, Calla's 6 month photos, the Slidell mini sessions, Steph's TTD and I've got to get ready for Taryn's 3rd birthday party!  Busy times but I'll post as I get through it all....it may not be in chronological order though =)

July 11, 2008

We're Home.

After a wonderful 8 day vacation in Louisiana and Orange Beach, Alabama, we're home.  It was so wonderful to see our family and spend some quality time with everyone.  It was a blast showing off Teagan too.  I took so many photos, and it still doesn't feel like enough.  One thing I learned, it is A LOT harder to travel with 3 kids than it is with 2.  Well, maybe it's my kids, but man, does Teagan hate the car.  Makes it really, really difficult.  But we did it.  And it was still tons of fun.  Now we're home and in our standard "let's all be depressed and start counting the days until the next gee-gee visit" moods.

So that this post isn't a downer, I'll leave you with this until I get to proofing some of the pics from our trip...(including all those fun Slidell mini-sessions, Steph's trash the dress and I even managed to twist the arms of my step-brother and sister-in-law enough to get them in front of the camera together for the first time in years!  go me!).  Thought this might make you smile......

HANDS UP, OR I'LL SHOOT!

Img_1312web

Super T is vicious, and I mean, vicious, with the water hose.  No mercy.  Especially not for her older brother.

ahhhh, I'm off to sleep in my own bed, sweet joy!

5 months old today

He's my happy little man...loves peek-a-boo.  He's filled with belly laughs and drooly smiles.  He watches us all, figuring us out with his big, bright blue eyes.  He's constantly chewing on his fingers, usually two, sometimes three.  Rolls over both ways, hates the car and stares at us in envy as we eat real food.   And I'm totally in love with him...

trash the dress, stephanie fisher style

I love, love, love working with other photographers.  Nine times out of ten, they are totally up for anything and everything.  I was so psyched that our first thing to do once arriving at the beach was to meet my longtime online buddy Stephanie.  We started this whole photography journey around the same time and it was so fun to finally meet her and her gorgeous little girl in person.  So after a quick dinner, we hit the beach for a quick trash the dress session.  It was Teagan's first time at the beach and he was so chill about it....

Img_0691cropweb

A couple of confessions....first, I love it that my husband is always willing to wear Teagan, even when I only pack the girlie print sling.  By kiddo #3, he's pretty chill too, and such a trooper.  Second, I was pretty nervous about my camera and the sand.  So much so, that I took an absurd number of photos without even looking through the viewfinder trying to protect it from the sand and breaking surf when in the water.  Third, looking at these I'm dying to do a destination wedding.

On our way down...

Img_0701web

love the bucket for a touch of whimsy - haha!

For what it's worth, she totally dove in to the surf.  We had a blast!!

33 sounds pretty good to me

I had an awesome birthday, thank you for all the well wishes.  First, my wonderful little dude gave me the best birthday gift ever, he slept through the night for the first time!  From 8:30 pm until 5:45 am.....way to go buddy!!  Then I had several mini-sessions and a big family birthday party after that.  My husband even took over camera duty for awhile at the party, how cool is that....I love finding photos on my camera.  A great day!

I promised sneak peeks before I head to the beach for a few days of relaxation.  The Slidell mini-sessions were a huge success, we managed to dodge the rain and it was fun to hang out with some old friends....thank you to everyone who booked one!

First up, little Bradley.  Remember him at 3 months (and here)?  And 6 months (and here)?  I can't believe how much he's grown...could he be any cuter?!?

Next up, the tripletsThe last time I saw them, they were itty bitty little peanuts.  I can't believe they're a year old already!  I got a bunch of shots of them, but I have to share this one, it cracks me up!  Their mom is brave and decided to let them dive into cupcakes at the end of the session.  They loved em!

and big sister Hannah with MacKenzie

Next up, Fletcher.  He's the adorable little boy of Mary with Paper & Ink Studio.  I was so psyched when Mary booked one of the mini-sessions, I finally got to meet her.  I hired her to do some custom work for me awhile back and I'm consistently amazed with her talent.  Is Fletcher seriously cute or what?!

Img_0198web

His parents are pretty cute too!

Img_0169v2web

last but not least, my little buddy Aiden (click here and here).  I've been photographing him since he was just a tiny little thing too, it was fun to see how much he's grown since we moved and catch up with his parents...

Many more of everyone to come...but now I'm off to the beach!!!!

the month of birthdays

first, the good old US of A...

Img_9623cropweb

then tomorrow, it's my birthday.  I'll be a ripe old 33.  Which I would be depressed about if 3 wasn't my most favorite number in the world.  It's gonna be a great year.  Then Tuesday is my Mom's birthday.  I won't say how old she'll be as she's likely to reach over and smack me if I do.  ;)  Then T's birthday is on the 21st.  What do we do with all these birthdays?  Well, we have a great big party.  Tomorrow.  Can't wait to celebrate with my favorite girls!

Rong

LOL!  We've been using AIM to chat with Ty at night while he's gone and this just totally cracked me up.  My A and B student....sigh....I guess its true what they say about summer and knowledge retention huh?

Gosh I miss him.  I didn't realize just how many times a day he brightens my world.  He has this energy about him, its infectious, and I love having it in my day.   Can't wait to get him back, even though I know he and the Gee are having a great time.

uhm, where did June go?

I opened my laptop this morning and couldn't believe the date that popped up on my iCal.  Where did June go?!  July is a big month for birthdays at our house, fun times ahead!

First photo of July...can't help but wonder what she's got in store for us next...

My Mommy Is Tired

Just a few more of my funny little dude.
Tired_sb_web
I bought this little getup to use during our family photoshoot with Michele, but I couldn't resist breaking it out after the last few days of exhaustion.  I got quite a few emails asking where I got the shirt.  I designed it in photoshop and then uploaded the graphic to Cafe Press.  Easy smeeshey.  Jase says he wants one that says "The Daddy is Too".  ;)

June 30, 2008

Yeah, this pretty much says it all.

Img_9342web

you know that movie "groundhogs day"....

where Bill Murray lives the same day over and over again.  Only in the Stradtner version, it gets progressively worse.

Two weeks ago, Taryn wrecked havoc on the floor in Teagan's room by dumping out an entire bottle of baby shampoo onto the carpet in the doorway.  This equaled hours of steam cleaning to get it out because you know what happens if you add water?  You guessed it, bubbles.  Jase took the brunt of the work on that one.

One week ago, her two year old self did THIS.  Funny, if you're not me.  Ok, well, slightly funny if you're me and it was a week ago.  I took the brunt of the work on that one since I was the only parent at home to scrub her butt down before running out the door for the day.

I think it's pretty safe to say, that today, Jase and I have officially lost our sense of humor.  Why?

The mug shot...does this face say "busted" or what?

Img_9294web

No, that is not marker.  It's not paint.  Not chapstick, or lipgloss.  It's NAIL POLISH.  Pink, impossible to remove without harsh chemicals on her very sensitive skin, nail polish.

She was punished in her room for throwing toys in the house again and not listening.  She was quiet and after a few minutes I asked Jase what Taryn was up to (see a theme here - I need to be listening to that mommy instinct don't ya think?).  "Oh, she's fine, she's in her room reading a book."  Correction:  she's in her room using her Dora sit-n-spin to climb up a shelf and get into a basket that has little girl fingernail polish in it.  Suddenly, she comes out crying about her lip and we took one look at her and thought she was bleeding.  That is, until we smelled her.  An unmistakable smell followed her out of her room.  And it wasn't just her face, her nose, her cheek, her chin and her lip....

feet, toes, ankles...

Img_9290web

legs, knees, calves, hands, fingers....

Img_9296web_2

she even has some in her hair.  Nice.

Only this time, I decided to have her daddy sit in the bathroom with her and let her scrub herself down while I ran off to google "removing nailpolish from my child's skin".....which, by the way, brings up some pretty funny stuff if ya ever need a good read on rainy day.   That is, funny if you don't NEED to google something like that.

Img_9309web

Didn't do much good though.  The scrubbing or the googling.  I managed to get some of it off of her face with a q-tip and polish remover.  Quite honestly, I seriously considered just leaving it.  I'd like to say to teach her a lesson, but honestly, I don't know if I have it in me to sit and q-tip every single brush mark.  So, I focused on the nose today and left the rest.

She can just wear pants this week.

June 29, 2008

I know I must sound like a broken record, but I just can't help it.

I adore her.  From the time she was in her mommy's tummy, to her birth, her 2 month shots and now, already 6 months old, sweet baby Calla.  She steals my heart every time....

Img_9184crop1web_2

She stole Taryn's heart tonight too.  She talked more about Calla on the way home than she did the hot dogs we all had for dinner, she's smitten, for sure.  Thanks Tuckers for inviting our clan (sans Ty) over for dinner, it was great to visit with you guys!

Rounded Corners

I love rounded corners and I finally got around to creating a little photoshop action....

Sample_2

A couple of things to note:

  • Full versions of PS only, sorry elements users.
  • Your image must be sized at 8x12 (or 12x8) before you run the action for it to work properly.
  • Two actions are included, one for horizontal images and one for vertical.

You can download them for free HERE.

Enjoy!

Oh, and that dude up there, he did great on his first solo flight to New Orleans last night.  Even if his momma did have a slight panic attack after he walked away (tight chest, difficulty breathing, you know the drill).  Being a momma is tough, especially when you have to let go just a little.

June 20, 2008

the dude

Love his sweet little face.

Img_8359bwweb_2

We had our nest baby photo shoot this morning and during the session I figured out why the dude loves eye contact with the camera so much.  I noticed while bing photographed, that I could see our reflection in the lens.  He's just gazing at the cute little mug looking back at him LOL!  I can't blame him one bit, I could gaze at this sweet little face all day long.

Ty leaves on a plane by himself tonight.  I'm sad.  He's excited.  What in the world am I going to do without him for two entire weeks??

June 19, 2008

crazy. busy.

This week has been.  Haven't picked up my camera much at all.  This weekend though, it'll get a workout.  Trash the dress.  I don't do weddings.  Ok, so I could totally be talked into doing a destination wedding.  But trash the dress sounded like fun to me!!  5 models, 3 assistants and lots of fun, I can't wait!!!  I'm about to load up the kids and head out the door to scout a location I got permission to use.  Really excited about the location, it's different for me.

Ty heads out tomorrow to visit my Mom.  Excited but this momma is a little sad.  I won't see him for 2 weeks :(  He'll be flying on his own for the first time.  Pretty nervous about that.  Him and me both.

June 17, 2008

10 on Tuesday

Thank you for all the blog love for the image on the new blog header.  I just adore them both and I can't tell you how amazing it feels to have an image in my mind for weeks and then actually create it exactly as I imagined.  I love it, I love them.  Glad you all liked it too.  Ok....on with 10 on Tuesday....

1.  Taryn has been messing with Ty for the last week.  Big time.  It's so funny.  Any time she notices he's in his room and she's bored, she runs to tell him "Momma needs you Ty"...which leads to him coming to find me for no reason.  She thinks this is hilarious.  Knee slappin, hand over her mouth, hilarious.  Ty, not so much.  I tend to side with her.  Especially after he falls for it for the 23rd time in the first 2 days!

2.  Ren over at VIBE tagged me with a "You Make My Day" Award.  Thanks Ren!  Now I get to pass it on.  Here are the Rules:  "“Give the award to up to 10 people whose blogs bring you happiness and inspiration and make you feel so happy about blogland! (leave them a comment on their blog to let them know ) Beware! You may get the award several times!”  The following bloggers, made my day, so here ya go:

Brianne Brose
Emily Weaver Brown
Amy Ro
Anne-Marie
Erin Cobb

I'll have to come back with 5 more later.  As you can tell, I didn't have much time for bloggin today.

3.  Isn't this the sweetest thing?  He dream nurses.  Hi little lip moves as he dreams about milk.  Love that.  And don't get me started on the dimples on his pudgy little hands.  I'm addicted.  And I quit trimming his nails.  I nipped the tip of his finger.  He cried.  I cried.  It's now Daddy's job.

Img_7795bwweb

4.  Taryn counts to 10 in Spanish.....uno dos tress cuatro cinco seis siete nacho nueve diaz.  Cracks me up every time.

5.  Father's Day was relaxing at our house, which was nice.  A quiet day, which is kind of rare.  Jason got up early (his choice, I was gonna let him sleep in and get up with the kids to fix breakfast).  He and Taryn went out to wash his car, then we had breakfast and just hung out as a family.  He asked for new disc golf sets for both he and Tyler and they went to go play in the afternoon.   Then we surprised him with a Texas sized set of wind chimes he's had his eye on.  This gift makes it official, our neighbors hate us.

6.  I think he's over me.

Img_8228bwweb

7.  Nahhhh

Img_8221bwweb

8.  I wonder if people think we cut his hair like that?  It's so him.  I'll be sad when the sides grow in and the mo'hawk is gone.  It cracks me up.

9.  Photo cubes are done.  Here is a quick snapshot...instructions and more photos coming soon!

don't ever ever ever trust a quiet two year old

Ever.

Quiet = Bad

Quiet = Up to no good

Quiet = Brace Yourself

Never.  Ever.  Ever.

Our house was a little busy this morning because I had to get 3 kids up and out in time for Teagan's 4 month checkup at the pediatrician. Ty and I were in my bedroom this morning, I had just finished nursing Teagan and walked in there to sit on the bed to burp him.  Ty and I were cooing with Teagan and just chatting.  I asked in passing what Taryn was doing, because it was quiet.  (Clue #1)  Ty said "Oh, she's fine, she's in the living room watching cartoons."  I continued to burp Teagan for another few minutes and then got up to go check on aforementioned two year old.  Yes, she was indeed watching cartoons in the living room.  On my way in I noticed the step stool next to the kitchen bar area leading into the living room.   (Random placement of step stools is bad.  Clue #2).  As I enter the living room I see Taryn's head pop up from the other side of the couch and she says "I'm not doing nuthin".   Clue #3, toddler denial is always an admission of guilt.

Notice the connect the "dots" and the ever popular circles around the belly button.  Nice huh?  And how she managed this, I have no idea....

I think in between the toes was a pretty nice touch too.

She looks amused in that last one doesn't she?  Well, Mommy was not amused.  At all.  We had a quick bath and scrubbing before trying to head out of the house and "most" of it came off.   But the water instantly turned murky brown when I plopped her down into the tub.

This week, body art.  Last week, she got into Teagan's bath stuff that was left out in his room and dumped an entire bottle of baby shampoo onto the carpet in the doorway.  We've just recovered from that after hours of steam cleaning to get it all out.  Fun times.
